Try this amazing bike tour: one of the best ways to visit Lucca! An expert tour guide will take you around the town, cycling along with you, talking about the secrets of the town. The tour starts from the wonderful surrounding walls of Lucca, the only ones which are still entirely walkable. After the visit of the walls, you will explore the historic center of Lucca, riding your bicycles searching and discovering its most important monuments.
You will see the awesome Anfiteatro square, whose name derives from the ancient Roman amphitheater, later on used as main site for the local market. You will admire Guinigi Tower, renowned for its oak trees on the top, the trick used to make it become the tallest tower in Lucca without going against the law! The tour continues up to reach the widest square, Piazza Napoleone, the square which was architecturally modified by Elisa Baciocchi, who had received the fief of Lucca by her brother Napoleone. In front of this square, there is another little one, called Piazza del Giglio (lily) because of theater’s name. Finally, you will reach S. Martino square where you will see the amazing Cathedral, originally built in the 6th century A.D. Inside, there is the legendary Volto Santo (the Holy Face) and others invaluable works of art; among these, the sacristy and its most breathtaking masterpiece: Ilaria del Carretto’s grave, made by the well-known artist Jacopo della Quercia, in the early 15th century.
