Description
Volterra is a small village considered as a real jewel, hidden in the center of the heart of Tuscany. Its major characteristic relies on the fact that this ancient village is the fusion of different styles. As a matter of fact, here, you can find remains typical of the Roman, Etruscan and Medieval style!
Volterra is situated above a hill. Thanks to this detail, from the village you will have the opportunity to admire an amazing panoramic view over the typical Tuscan Countryside. You will spot several Tuscan vineyard, not to mention many and many olive groves, which outline the classic Tuscan windy streets.
The typical architectures belonging to the Etruscan style are the big front gates, which will let you enter the village. Meanwhile you will have the chance to identify the roman style in the Medici Fortress, and in the roman theater. During our tour, you will also have the chance to admire the amazing Cathedral of S. Maria Assunta, not to mention the unique Bishop’s Palace.
Another activity which is included in this tour is the entrance and the visit of an alabaster studio, where you will learn the ancient secrets of this craft that was preserved all these years.
After some free time for lunch, we will continue the tour with a sugestive stop on the way back at the renewed “Teatro del Silenzio”, which was requested by Andrea Bocelli in 2006.
The site is more specifically an amphitheater, which was created exploiting the natural conformation of a hill situated in Lajatico, birthplace of Bocelli. The peculiarity of this site is that it is the location of a show, which is performed only once a year, a very incredible but most of all an incredibly suggestive location!
